E-passport fee in Pakistan 2026: full table and how to pay

By Umair Tahir · Updated 27 October 2026

Pakistan now issues only e-passports. The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) announced the new fee schedule on 15 October 2026, and the machine-readable passport (MRP) that most people hold stopped being issued to new applicants the same month. This page gives the fee for every passport type from DGIP’s own table, what the fee buys in delivery time, how the fee is paid now that counters no longer take cash, what a lost or damaged passport costs, and how online renewal and tracking work.

E-passport fee table (DGIP, 2026)

Fees in Pakistani rupees, as listed on dgip.gov.pk under e-Passport Fee
ValidityPagesNormalUrgent
5 years36 pagesRs 9,000Rs 15,000
5 years72 pagesRs 16,500Rs 27,000
10 years36 pagesRs 13,500Rs 22,500
10 years72 pagesRs 24,750Rs 40,500

The cheapest passport is the 5-year, 36-page book on normal processing at Rs 9,000; the most expensive is the 10-year, 72-page book on urgent processing at Rs 40,500. A 10-year passport costs 1.5 times the 5-year one, which works out cheaper per year, and the 72-page book is for people who travel often and fill a 36-page book with visas and stamps. DGIP’s page also mentions a 100-page book at an extra fee but does not list its price. There is no “fast track” category for e-passports; that was an MRP option.

What changed in October 2026

Two things changed at once. First, the MRP was retired for new applications: DGIP’s news list carries “E-Passport Replace Ordinary Passport”, and from mid-October 2026 every new or renewed passport is an e-passport with a chip. News reports give the switch date as 15 October or 23 October depending on the office; either way, if you apply now you get an e-passport. An MRP you already hold stays valid until its expiry date and does not have to be exchanged. Second, the e-passport fee schedule above replaced the old MRP fees, which were roughly half these amounts for the same validity and pages.

A third change came earlier, on 1 July 2026, when passport fee payment became cashless. DGIP lists “Passport Cashless Fee Payment” among its initiatives and “Fee Payment via QR Code” as a step in the application process. That is why people who last made a passport a few years ago find the bank-challan step gone.

Normal or urgent: what the extra fee buys

DGIP’s passport page states urgent delivery in 5 working days and normal delivery in 21 working days, excluding courier time to remote areas and overseas missions. The same site’s guidelines section quotes 4 and 10 working days, so the honest reading is: urgent in about a week, normal in two to four weeks, and plan around the longer figure if you have a flight. The urgent fee is Rs 6,000 more for a 36-page 5-year book and Rs 15,750 more for a 72-page 10-year book.

How the fee is paid

At a passport office, the fee is paid in the office as part of the process: after your token and data entry you are given a QR code, which you scan with a banking or mobile wallet app that supports QR payments, and the receipt is recorded against your application. Cash is not accepted at the counter since July 2026. Take a phone with a working banking or wallet app and enough balance for the fee in the table; the office can tell you which apps its QR accepts on the day.

For an online renewal through onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk, DGIP’s e-services page says the fee is paid by credit card or debit card as the last step of the application, and that fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Make sure the card is enabled for online payments before you reach that step; a failed payment leaves the application saved but unpaid.

Lost, damaged and exhausted passports

  • Lost passport: a police report mentioning the previous passport number is required. DGIP charges double the normal fee for a first loss and four times the fee for a second loss; a third loss is referred to DGIP headquarters.
  • Damaged passport: replaced “subject to submission of prescribed fee and production of required documents”; the page does not list a separate amount, so expect the standard fee for the book you choose.
  • Pages used up: you apply for a new book; the 72-page book costs the amounts in the table and the 100-page book an extra fee that the page does not quantify.

Who can renew online, and what to upload

DGIP’s online renewal is open to Pakistanis inside and outside the country whose passport has expired or has less than one year of validity left. You create a login, fill a wizard with your details, upload scans of your CNIC or NICOP and the relevant passport pages, download and sign the fingerprint form and declaration from your account, pay by card, and wait for approval; overseas applicants get the passport delivered. The photo for the online application must be a colour picture on a white background, 350 by 467 pixels, JPEG, and not larger than 3 MB, according to the e-services page; the portal’s photo-requirements page adds the 35 by 45 mm shape and a 350 KB limit for its photo checker. The passport photo page on this site makes a file that meets those rules.

Tracking your passport

There is no tracking page to type a number into. DGIP sends status updates by SMS and email from 9988 (the Rabta service) to the mobile number and email you give during data entry, and online applicants also see updates in their account. If a delivered passport does not arrive, DGIP’s delivery section is reachable at onlinedelivery@dgip.gov.pk, and the general helpline is 051-111-344-777 on weekdays from 8:30 to 16:30.

Documents for a new passport, in short

  • Adults: original CNIC or NICOP with a photocopy, previous passport with a photocopy if you had one, employer NOC for government or semi-government employees, foreign passport with a copy for dual nationals.
  • Children under 10: original CRC (Form B) or FRC with a copy, plus both parents’ original CNICs with copies; a parent or guardian attends.
  • Children 10 and above: updated CRC with fingerprints and photo, or a Juvenile Card, plus the parents’ documents as above; court papers if the parents are separated.
  • The photograph is taken at the counter for in-person applications, so no printed photo is needed there; the photo file matters only for online renewal.
