Pakistan online passport photo size and rules

For an online passport application the photograph must be 45 mm high by 35 mm wide on a plain white background, and the file can be up to 5 MB. The portal’s own photo checker accepts files up to 350 KB.

Read this before you use the tool for a passport photo

The passport office is stricter than a job portal. Its requirements page says the photo must be professionally taken, must not be cut down from a larger picture, and must not be edited in other software. For that reason the tool on this page starts with “Full image” selected: it does not crop your photo, it only saves a smaller file.

If your studio photo is already under 5 MB, you can upload it to the application as it is. The tool is useful for the photo checker on the same page of the portal, which accepts JPG or PNG files of up to 350 KB. The page does not say whether a file that has only been made smaller counts as edited, so keep the original file as well.

What the photograph must show

The page lists the rules. The photo must not be more than 6 months old, must be in sharp focus and clear, must be taken against a plain white background, must show a close-up of your full head and shoulders, and must be only of you with no other objects or people.

It also says a photo may be rejected unless it shows you facing forward and looking straight at the camera, with a neutral expression and your mouth closed, with your eyes open and visible, and without shadows or red eye. The dimension diagram on the page marks a measurement of at least 29 mm and no more than 34 mm inside the 45 mm height.
